Fergus Tellall
the artist
Fergus Tellall. He is a computer optimized actor who was born in
cyberspace, but can project himself into our reality. Tuned by
exhaustive psychological analysis to incite uncontrollable curiosity
in the public eye and the paparazzi. He is 'media catnip'. He
appears at Academy Awards, film premiers and big studio press
conferences. Although he looks like a human from afar, he is
pixelized up close.
the art
Pure media feeding frenzy. At his appearance all the reporters,
photographers and public immediately fall under his spell. Real
actors and celebrities are left behind in the spectacle. As the
people gather around him, they start automatically asking questions
about his latest scandals and romantic flings. All these 'scandals'
and 'flings' are of course implanted into the public mind by Fergus.
As quickly as he appears, he vanishes into cyberspace with the
collective emotional timbre of the crowd. He will use this energy to
prepare for his next appearance.
the beret
Fergus' beret consists of a ring of strobe units designed to flash in
sync with the hundreds of cameras that are trained on him in order to
confuse and disorient the crowd in the same fashion as a real actor is
assaulted by the media. Interspersed with the strobe units are
ultrasonic jammers that put any camera or camcorder in the area
totally out of focus. On top of the strobe units is a cluster of
bullhorns that amplify the crowds voices and "shout" back at them.
