Miss Fifi La'Garabauge
the artist
I work with fabulous materials. My resourses are unlimited. I dug a
secret tunnel under the trunk of an old tree which leads directly to
my treasure trove of refuse. As an artist, I have a very meager budget
so I rely on the generous donations of my neighbors and sanitation
workers. Thank you public for providing me with the beautiful
materials I use in my 'constructions.' I am very happy to have, at my
dissposal, an endless supply of 'garabauge.'
the art
I love building large towers out of broken glass and old bottles. I
surround the outer perimeter of the tower with layers of metal, which
are layed level upon the earth. Next I add a circle of tires, tin cans
and more glass, all stacked up and spiraling around the tower like an
impenetrable fence. This is obviousley an out door piece. When the
tower is complete, I like to spend time sitting inside of it. It's
very tranquil. Whenever there is movement on the street: people, trees
and cars passing by, their shadows create interesting rippeling ghost
forms. Also, the glass is made up of many colors so everything
sparkles like precious jewels tumbling through a kaleidoscope.
the beret
Berets are fabulous! Mine is a shiny silver hubcap. When its not on
my head, I use it for digging and carring objects. It's very
functional and looks great on my head too!
