Elijah Pogonatus
the artist
Elijah Pogonatus. He creates mixed media (silk screen, wrought
and cast metal, interactive computer 'multimedia') pieces on
mythological themes (christian, greek, and norse mythology primarily).
the art
Representative piece:
"St George slaining the Dragon" -- mixed media 18"x32"x60" Bronze
stick-figure St. George slays a pentium/windows box running a video
program which warps a video image of the viewer in real time. The
monitor is 'pierced' with a wrought iron and acid etched sword. The
monitor 'bleeds' neon streams of light.
the beret
In accordance with his Scottish heritage, Elijah wears a
tam-o-shanter of the McNulty dress tartan. (Hint: a tam
is a Scottish hat which resembles a beret in look, but is
different in material and construction.)
